Indication: Octreotide is used to treat diarrhea (water) by reducing the loss of body fluids and minerals. Since Octreotide can reduce the releasing of Growth Hormone, as the result, it is used in the treatment of Acromegaly (exceed of Growth Hormone in the body), reduce the chance to have diabetes and heart disease, and redness on the face or neck causing by the production of some hormone from certain tumors (cancer).
Form: Powder in vial.
Dose: Dose is vary to individual need and response as directed by the doctor. However the
recommended dose is:
● Acromegaly: 50 mcg inject subcutaneously 3 times a day.
● Diarrhea: inject subcutaneously 50 to 100 mcg, 3 times a day.
Side Effects: There are some side effects like bradycardie, arthyme, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, hypoglycemia.
Precautions: Do not use, if you allergic to any of the drug composition. Octreotide will change the balance between insulin, glucagon, and growth hormone, which may cause hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
Interaction: Inform your doctor or Pharmacist if you use other drugs or supplements particularly beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, cyclosporine, or diuretics.
